Music for Film: A Dance For Bethany
The feature film, A Dance For Bethany, was completed in March of 2007 It premiered in theatres in Asheville, North Carolina during the later part of September 2007, where it was filmed. It's a wonderfully moving romantic drama. The film’s producer, Marion Williams said, “Mark produced a score that’s just as good as any LA
composer could have done.” One film critic said about the film, “It has the look and feel of a Hollywood
film”. We'll try to keep you posted as things develop. Check out these two film clips from the movie. You will need Quicktime installed on your computer.

Music for Film: Nic Newton
The following is music written for a very exciting developing project
by the name Nic Newton produced by Story Point Media
and Imaginari Studios.
Nic Newton is a mystery/adventure film with comedy and a bit of sci-fi. It takes place in the 1930s. Replace Indiana Jones with a teenage genius/inventor and you kind of get the idea. It calls out for
a richly developed orchestral score. Here's a couple of samples for
your listening pleasure. Keep in mind this is all underscore that sits
behind ever changing action and dialogue which you will just have to imagine for now..

Music for Dance: The Wicked Witches solo (1997)
The only time a musical theme was used for the Wicked Witch in the movie, The Wizard of Oz, was when Miss Gulch (later the Wicked Witch) came to take away Dorothy's dog, Todo. Hear that theme | See that theme
When music was needed for the Wicked Witch's big dance solo in Dorothy's Adventure in Oz, Mark Hagerling wrote a spirited orchestral piece keying off of the same motif.
All of the music for Dorothy's Adventure in Oz was originally either produced, composed or arranged by Mark Hagerling for the Asheville Center of Performing Arts. The production has since become an annual tradition in Asheville, performed each fall at the Diana Wortham Theatre.

Music for Dressage: Elvis
Marlene Whitaker of Custom Freestyle Inc. choreographs and designs music for some of the top horses in the U.S. in the Dressage Freestyle competition. She came to Mark Hagerling with a particularly difficult ride for Susan Dutta and her horse, Gumshoes. Marlene was convinced that the widely used method of editing preexisting recordings would not work. The horse and the music have to stay in near perfect synchronization the entire time (about 6 minutes) and Gumshoes had been
choreographed in such a way as to have many unusual changes in gait and speed. Mark arranged and recorded the entire ride from scratch using themes from Elvis songs as requested. Since that ride, Mark has worked on many other projects for Custom
Freestyle Inc. Listen to excerpts from the "Elvis
Kur" now.
