Movie Scoring and Other Work of Interest
August 2008
I was commisioned to write original music for Courtney King-Dye, representing the US in the sport of dressage at the 2008 Olympics. She rode Harmony's Mythilus to my original work bookended by instrumental Cat Stevens (Sad Lisa) at the beginning and end. Marlene Whitaker of Custom Freestyle Inc., whom I worked in conjunction with had this to say, "The music counts 25% of the final freestyle score and major competitions have been won or lost based on that alone. While the music is scored on appropriateness of selection, cohesiveness, editing, and phrasing, its overall impact in support of the program is immense. This ride captures the imagination and tells an elegant powerful story. Only a handful of riders in the world use original music, so we are leading the parade".

It's official. I've recieved my first award for film scoring. The actual title of the award is the "Award of Excellence: Original Score". It is awarded by The Accolade Competition. They state in their award, "The judging standards are high and winning means the craft and creativity exhibited in your entry is outstanding and stands above other productions"

I am especially proud to receive this award since the film, A Dance for Bethany, is my first feature film score. You can purchase A Dance for Bethany on DVD by going here. Watch clips here.

Now Using VSL!
January 2005
The significance of this is huge! With VSL (Vienna Symphonic Library) I am able to reproduce the sounds
of the orchestra with a genuineness, clarity and detail never before available to the
electronic musician!
It means that I can compose,
orchestrate, record and deliver finished music for film with a quality that in the past
could only be accomplished with the full resources of a live professional orchestra.
VSL is widely accepted as the largest and
most sophisticated orchestral sound
sample library available in the world today and I am proud to be a licensee.
ProTools Project Studio!
November 2004
Yes, it's true. Due to a recent change of residence I was
able set up a separate building as a project studio and work place with
more space and lots of class. It's a great place to work and an inviting
atmosphere for producers and directors.
I'm recording with Pro Tools on a Mac platform. I also have a small farm of PCs to
run Gigastudio, Vienna Ensemble, the VSL library and other things. It's a great setup for composing to film. It
also works well as a recording studio for solo artists and small groups.
